Advent 1 - Year A

PSALM 25:1-10
Dear LORD, I call out from the deepest part of my being.
I've trusted in you,
don't let me be ashamed;
don't let my enemies rejoice over me.
I'm sure that those who wait for you will not be put to shame;
but those without principles, who act without faith,
they will be put to shame.
Show me your ways, LORD;
teach me your way to behave.
Help me walk in your way, and teach me;
for you are my saving God.
I wait for you all day because of your goodness;
remember your acts of mercy, LORD
- and your lovingkindness - they have been for ever.
Don't remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways,
remember me according to your lovingkindness.
You, LORD, are good and upright,
and showing sinners the way.
You help the humble walk in justice
and teach the humble your way.
All your paths are lovingkindness and faithfulness
for those keeping your covenant and your teaching.

PSALM 25 (another version)
To you, O LORD, I lift up my inmost being.
In you, O LORD, have I trusted,
let me not be ashamed; do not let my enemies rejoice over me.
Indeed, those who wait for you will not be put to shame;
the unprincipled who act faithlessly will be put to shame.
Make your ways known to me, O LORD,
teach me your ways (of behaviour)
Make me walk in your way, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation.
I have waited for you all the day
on account of your goodness.
Remember your acts of mercy, O LORD,
and your lovingkindness, for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellions,
remember me according to your lovingkindness.
The LORD is good and upright,
therefore he is showing sinners (in) the way.
He will make the humble walk in justice
and teach the humble his way.
All the paths of the LORD are lovingkindness and faithfulness
for those keeping God's covenant and decrees.

A CREATIVE MOMENT - Matthew 24:36-44
The worship space could feature the main thematic symbol over the Sundays of Advent of a good length of blue cloth (mid- to dark blue) - this week symbolising the Flood. It could be hung as a large plain banner or draped in a manner appropriate for your worship space. In addition perhaps an open padlock or other symbol of the "thief in the night" and a lit candle alluding to the call to "stay awake!"
