Maundy Thursday - Year A

Psalm 116:1-4,12-19
Out of love the LORD has heard my cry;
the LORD listened when I called,
therefore I will proclaim as long as I live.
What shall I return to the LORD for all his bounty to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD,
I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all God's people.
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of God's faithful ones.
O LORD, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your serving girl.
You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice and call on the name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all God's people,
in the courts of the house of the LORD, in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the LORD!

A CREATIVE MOMENT - Exodus 12:1-8, 11-14; John 13 (portions); 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
Continue using the purple cloth from last week. It could be hung as a large plain banner or draped in a manner appropriate for your worship space.
An alternative to a symbolic foot-washing.
This suggestion is probably best suited to a smaller group, say, no more that 30, although it could be adapted to larger numbers. It requires that worship happen in the context of a simple meal - bread, sliced roast lamb, a few condiments, fresh fruit water/juice to drink. This is not a Seder.
After the singing of an appropriate hymn, have some one read the Exodus portion. During the meal have some one read selected portions of John 13. The meal leads into a simple Holy Communion in which the elements are shared around the table, each serving their neighbour. Conclude with a hymn and a blessing.
