Sunday 16 - Year A

PRAYER OF ADORATION AND THANKSGIVING (Ps.139:1-6)
Lord God, you know me through and through;
you know my sitting down, and my getting up.
You sense what I am thinking from far away;
you understand my journeying and my resting.
In fact, you are familiar with the way I do everything;
even before I speak, you know what's on my mind.
You are in my past, and in my future,
you surround me with your love
and your reassuring hand is upon me.
This wonderful knowledge is beyond my understanding;
it surpasses everything, and is beyond my grasp.

For the stories we share, for our life together,
and for the breathe of your Spirit among us,
we thank you,
Holy and blessed Trinity. Amen

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Psalm 139:7-12)
Where can I go from your spirit?
Or where could I get away from your presence?
If I climbed the heavens, you would be there;
if I made my bed in Sheol, you would be there.
If I were to fly with the morning light
and settle at the farthest limits of the sunset,
even there your hand would lead me,
and your right hand would take hold of me.
If I asked the darkness to cover me,
and the light around me to become night,
even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is as bright as the day, for light and dark are just the same.
Forgive what we have been,
help us amend what we are,
and shape what we shall be;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

A CREATIVE MOMENT - Genesis 28:10-19a and Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
Jacob's experience of God might be symbolised with a ladder; a large boulder (of the papier mache variety, I suggest); a small pile of soil and a compass.
The parable could be symbolised visually by a bundle/pile of wheat and a bundle/pile of weeds.
