LAMENTATIONS 3:19-26
Remembering my misery and homelessness is bitter poison!
My heart recalls it again
and again;
and is crushed
within me.
This is what I will keep in mind,
and so regain my hope:
God's steadfast love will
never be spent
nor the Lord's
compassion come to an
end;
they are new every
morning.
Great is your
faithfulness!
I say to
myself, "I have the
Lord
in whom I will wait in
hope."
The Lord is good to all who wait with trust,
who seek
God with expectant
hearts.
It is good to wait
in hopeful stillness for the salvation of the Lord.
There are events in the life of every congregation and its community which been negative, debilitating or the cause of collective grief. These may be situations which have been 'blocked out' or which remain unresolved but which nevertheless deserve to be acknowledged and lamented in the process of resolution and closure. The reading from Lamentations may offer the opportunity for a service of acknowledgement and lament.
