LUKE 9:28-36
“This is my son, the Beloved; listen to him.”
A society of listeners:
a voice on a mobile phone
music on a portable entertainment device
our own personal soundtrack
complete with our favourite tunes.
“This is my son, the Beloved; listen to him.”
Listen to words of comfort, challenge, promise, hope:
listen without ceasing.
“This is my son, the Beloved; listen to him.”
On the plain, in the valley of life, as on the mountain top:
occasional glimpses of the divine
experiences that transform
our understanding of Jesus
in disappointment, confusion
when there is no light at the end of the tunnel
when new life seems far off.
“This is my son, the Beloved; listen to him.”
Listen
to the voice that also invites us to follow.
(Adapted from a sermon from some years ago, which may have drawn on material from other, long-forgotten, sources.)
