LUKE 18:1-8
The Teacher told a story
that was outrageous really,
about a widow
(who really should have known her place).
Alone
the widow stood in the city gate.
Alone
she cried for justice.
Alone
she came
again and again and again,
seeking, demanding, bothering
about justice;
wearing a way in the dusty street,
wearing away at an arrogant judge
who eventually
relented,
not considering the woman,
mind you,
but rather himself.
It’s a story
about the prayer life of faithful followers:
about prayer that is
continually, persistently,
even wearily, angrily,
seeking, demanding, bothering
to be the foundation of that faith.
