HOPE NEVERTHELESS

A difficult text:
gendered power imbalance,
promiscuity,
seeming endorsement
of domestic violence:
doubtful metaphor.
Yet it offers hope,
not just for its first hearers,
but for today’s too.
When did you last speak
that hopeful word,
“God’s love is boundless”?
