PSALM 147:12-20
Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem;
Praise your God, O Zion;
who strengthened the bars of your gates,
and blessed your sons within you.
The LORD sets peace within your borders ;
and fills you with the finest wheat
sends a word to the earth,
and it runs swiftly.
The LORD gives snow like wool,
scatters frost like ashes;
throws hail like bread-crumbs;
before such cold – who can stand?
The LORD sends a word and it melts,
blows a breath and the water flows.
declares a word to Jacob,
the laws and judgements of the LORD to Israel,
not having done this with any other nation,
nor made those judgements known to them.
Praise the LORD.
OFFERING
Holy source of life,
you gather us in our gladness and sorrow;
old and young,
rich and poor,
fit and frail.
As followers of Jesus
we offer our gifts and our lives
that they may open ways to a renewed world
in this new year. Amen

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer, usually with connection to one or more of the lections for the day, to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession. Sometimes this prayer also borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)
Word who is light and life,
sustain, encourage, comfort
those for whom we pray…
(A time of silence is kept)
and ourselves
that in walking the way of Jesus
our light may shine
and our actions be seen
to your glory…
(The Prayers of the People continue)
