GATHERING OF THE PEOPLE      (Psalm 50:1-8, 22-23)
God, the LORD God, has spoken;
his summons covers all the earth,
like the sun from its rising to its setting.
God has shone forth from Zion;
perfect in its beauty
The LORD God comes and will not be silent;
consuming fire goes before the LORD
who is surrounded by raging storm.
The LORD God calls upon the heavens above
and the earth, so that he might judge his people.
Gather to me my faithful ones;
the ones that make covenant with me by sacrifice.
The heavens declare God’s righteousness
and proclaim, “God, the LORD God, is judge.”
Listen carefully, my people, and I will speak;
O Israel, I will serve as a witness against you.
I am God, your God.
It is not for your sacrifices that I want to set you right;
indeed, your burnt offerings are always before me

Consider this, then, you who forget God;
lest I tear you to pieces and there is no deliverer.
Those with a sacrifice of thanksgiving honour me;
to those who determine such a path
I will let them see the salvation of God.

OFFERING
Holy mystery we name God,
we bring our gifts
with hopeful and faithful spirits.
May what we bring in these gifts and our living
serve you in serving others.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

A CREATIVE MOMENT – Luke 12:32-40
Use again the the “material” symbols suggested for last week. Rather than a perfumed candle, use an unscented one this week. Also include any other symbols which, in your context, convey or symbolise “readiness”.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession with connection to the lections for the day. Sometimes this prayer borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)

Holy and mysterious,
yet the one in whom we find rest and shelter,
may your word bring healing
to the broken and bruised;
comfort to the grieving;
and assurance to the fearful.
By your spirit of grace
be present to those
whose troubles are known only to you
and those whom we name
on our lips and in our silence…
In Jesus’ name we pray….
