PSALM 51:1-12
Be gracious to me, O God, according to your lovingkindness;
according to your abundant compassion blot out my rebellious acts.
Like a cloudburst, wash my wrongdoing from me and scour my sins from me;
for I am only too aware of my rebellion, and my sin is always in front of me.
I have sinned against you – you alone, and done what is displeasing in your eyes
and so you have a just case when you speak; blameless when you judge.
The truth is, I was born among waywardness,
and my mother conceived me in a sinful society,
though you desired faithfulness in the womb,
and in being kept hidden you caused me to know wisdom
Unsin me with hyssop and I shall be clean;
wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones you crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my wrongdoing.
Create for me a clean heart, O God,
and re-create a generous spirit within me.

PRAYER OF ADORATION (from Ps. 119:9-16)
Gracious and everliving God,
You have given your promise for us to treasure in our hearts,
and your justice for us to declare with our lips.
You have given your commandments as a sure path for us,
and your decrees for our richest delight.
You have given your Covenant so that we may have life in its fullness,
and the urgings of your Spirit for our attentive listening to your word.

Eternal God,
whose creative word
brought life out of darkness,
we praise you.
Suffering God,
whose incarnate word
lived and died among us to show us your love,
we adore you.
Gracious and everliving God,
whose living word
breathed your Holy Spirit on the church,
we worship you.
Creating and generous God
we bring our lives and symbols of our daily living.
By your Spirit
enable us to be responsible stewards
and faithful followers of Jesus. Amen

A CREATIVE MOMENT – Isaiah 43:16-21
Click here for some ideas for worship in Lent and Easter gleaned from the pages of “On the Move” (now out of print) which was published by the Joint Board of Christian Education, Melbourne, Australia.

(A prayer to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession with connection to the lections for the day. Sometimes this prayer will borrow lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)
God of boundless love,
You have heard the cry of your people in every generation;
Hear our prayer
for those in our congregation; our community; our families,
whom we name on our lips
and in the silence of our hearts:
those whose troubles are known only to you;
and those who have no-one.
In Jesus’ name we pray…
