PSALM 119:105-112
Your word is a lamp to my feet,
a light to my path.
I have sworn an oath and confirmed it;
to keep your just rulings.
I’m bent over with suffering;
O LORD, give me life, according to your word.
Please hear my praise offerings, O LORD;
and instil me with your rulings.
Continually, I put my life in my hands;
but I do not forget your way for living.
The wicked set a trap for me;
but I do not wander from your directions..
Your terms for living are my heritage for ever;
they are indeed the joy of my heart.
I turn my heart to live out your precepts;
they are my reward for ever.
OFFERING
Holy mystery we name God,
we bring the bustle of each day,
the energy created by our work,
the enthusiasm of our eager hearts.
May our joy in following Jesus strengthen us
that our living may also extend
your hospitality and compassion
to our neighbours. Amen.
A CREATIVE MOMENT – Genesis 25:19-34 and Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23
Theme symbols on the worship table, or other appropriate position in the worship space today, could be a small pile of red lentils together with a “gift-wrapped” parcel labelled “Double Share of Inheritance”. (Genesis) and small piles of wheat and stones (Gospel).
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer, usually with connection to one or more of the lections for the day, to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession. Sometimes this prayer also borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)
Loving God, healer and bringer of wholeness,
we wonder why life is the way it seems to be:
let you word light the path
of the weak and the lonely;
your spirit comfort
those burdened with grief,
and be company for those whose troubles
are known only to you …
