Palm 29
Give glory and honour and power and authority
to the name of the LORD,
all you children of God!
Worship the LORD in holy awe;
bow down in the overwhelming presence of our God.
Listen to the presence of the LORD over the waters;
hear the majesty of the name of the LORD;
its power and authority above the roar of the flood.
Cedar panels in the Temple splinter at the voice of the LORD,
lightning flashes rip open the sky;
animals give birth before their time, and the earth trembles.
A shout of “Glory!” rises to the LORD enthroned in splendour.
May the LORD give protection and blessing and life for ever
OFFERING
Source of all being,
we bring our gifts,
an offering of thanksgiving
for your love shown uniquely in Jesus;
and for your sustaining and surprising Spirit,
prompting us to share them
with the wisdom and compassion,
to faithfully bring forth justice,
as followers of Jesus. Amen.
A CREATIVE MOMENT – Matthew 3:13-17
The worship space could feature the main thematic symbol from the Sundays of Advent – a good length of blue cloth (mid- to dark blue). It could be hung as a large plain banner or draped in a manner appropriate for your worship space. You might want to add a white dove to it, or some other simple representation of the Spirit descending. In addition, a large glass jug of water and perhaps some stones/rocks.
See also 09C Baptism of Jesus Creative Moment (Year C), which could be readily adapted for today.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer, usually with connection to one or more of the lections for the day, to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession. Sometimes this prayer also borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)
Source of life,
Word of life,
breath of life,
Hear our prayers
for those in our congregation,
our community,
our friendships,
our families,
whom we name on our lips
and in our silence…
And for ourselves,
that we might live more faithfully
the mission into which we are baptised…
