WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD (from Psalm 107: 1-9)
Come and worship the Lord our God;
You alone, O Lord, are good ,
and your lovingkindness is forever.
Come into the saving presence of the Lord our God;
You save us, O Lord,
and rescue us from our troubles.
Come and worship the Lord our God
who has gathered us;
You gather us, Lord God,
from a week which was sometimes like a wasteland,
where our inner being was hungry and thirsty for you.
Come and worship the Lord our God
who hears when we cry out;
You lift us from the muddy ground of our distress,
and by a straight path, O Lord,
you lead us into community,
Come and worship the Lord our God
whose steadfast love and marvellous works are for all humankind;
You satisfy our thirst, O Lord;
and the emptiness of our deepest hunger,
you fill with good things.

OFFERING
Creating and generous God,
in response to the blessings
we receive from you,
we offer the gifts of our living.
By your Spirit enable us to hear
those who cry out in need
that we may be
generous, committed bearers of the gospel
in word and deed.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

A CREATIVE MOMENT – Luke 12:13-21
A couple of contrasting ideas to use together: (a) A money-bag/purse/wallet or wad of “Monopoly” money or small mound of grains of wheat as a focus in the worship centre, and (b) an aroma to fill the worship space e.g. light a perfumed candle.
Here I’m trying to contrast the tangible with the intangible; the earthly with the transcendent.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession with connection to the lections for the day. Sometimes this prayer borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)

God of all grace,
in you is hope, which has endured throughout every age.
In that hope we remember before you now
those we have named on our lips and in the silence of our hearts.
By the light of your Word and the warmth of your Spirit
help us bring consolation to those know to us,
return to our memory those whom we have forgotten
and be present to those who have no-one;
in Jesus’ name…
