PSALM 24
The earth and its abundance is the Lord’s,
the world, and those living in it;
for he has founded it upon the seas,
and established it upon the rivers.
Who shall go up the hill of the LORD?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up their life to what is false,
and does not swear deceitfully.

Such a person will receive blessing from the LORD,
and vindication from the God of their salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O everlasting doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is the King of glory?
The LORD, strong and mighty,
the LORD, mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O everlasting doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.

OFFERING
The earth and its abundance are yours, O God;
the world, and those living in it.
We offer our lives and the gifts of our living,
to the fullness of your harvest
and the greatness of your kingdom;
in Jesus’ name. Amen.

A CREATIVE MOMENT – Mark 6:14-29
Remembering the martyrs ancient and modern, those who died for their faith.
Perhaps have a ‘roll-call’ of such people, lighting a candle as each name is read out. These could be votive candles placed in a tray of sand, or the small flat kind that lend themselves to be floated in a clear glass bowl of water.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession with connection to the lections for the day. Sometimes this prayer borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)

Gracious God of our salvation,
hear the voice of all who cry
in their day of trouble.
By your Holy Spirit
comfort those who cannot be comforted
strengthen the weak,
and those whose trouble is known only to you;
encourage those we have named on our lips
and in our silence.
In Jesus’ name we pray….
(The Prayers of the People continue)
