PSALM 70
Rescue me, O God!
hurry to my aid!
Let those who seek my life
be shamed and disgraced;
those who want to see me ruined,
be turned back, humiliated;
those who say, “Aha, aha!”,
retreat in shame.
Let all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
those who love your saving help
ever say, “God is great!”
But I am poor and needy;
come to me quickly, O God!
You are my help and rescuer,
O LORD, do not delay!

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer, usually with connection to one or more of the lections for the day, to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession. Sometimes this prayer also borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
It was on a Wednesday
that Jesus spoke out
against greed, false concern for the poor,
self-interest.
So today we pray,
Holy source of all that is,
comforter of the poor,
bring sight to those blind to beauty, love and peace;
rescue those exploited by the greedy;
be present to those who call on your name,
to those we named on our lips,
and in the silence of our hearts,
those whose concerns are known only to you;
in Jesus’ name…
