Psalm 50:1-6
God, the LORD God, has spoken;
his summons covers all the earth,
like the sun from its rising to its setting.

God has shone forth from Zion;
perfect in its beauty
The LORD God comes and will not be silent;
consuming fire goes before the LORD
who is surrounded by raging storm.

The LORD God calls upon the heavens above
and the earth, so that he might judge his people.
Gather to e my faithful ones;
the ones that make covenant with me by sacrifice.
The heavens declare God’s righteousness
and proclaim, “God, the LORD God, is judge.”

GATHERING OF THE PEOPLE (Psalm 50:1, 5)
God, the LORD God, has spoken
God’s summons covers all the earth
like the sun from its rising to its setting.

“Gather to me, my faithful ones”;
We gather to worship you, O God.

OFFERING
May our lives and our gifts
be used to reveal your glory, Lord God,
in ways which proclaim Jesus
as your chosen and beloved Son,
in ways which show that we have listened to him.
Amen.

For use in worship, with acknowledgement. © Jeff Shrowder 2000, 2006.

A CREATIVE MOMENT – Mark 9:1-9
Materials/Preparation: Although brief, this is a dramatic reading which lends itself to costumes, props, sound and lighting effects. Let your imagination go!

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession with connection to the lections for the day. Sometimes this prayer will borrow lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)

Compassionate God,
whose faithfulness is a shield and protection
gather the oppressed and grieving under your wing
strengthen those who fear the terror of the night,
or daily life;
rescue the distressed;
keep safe those who love you.
be present to those who call on your name,
to those we have named today,
those we name in our hearts
and those whose troubles are known only to you.
Loving God of all generations,
hear the cries of our world,
in Jesus’ name…
(The prayers continue…)
