CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 118)
Give thanks to the LORD, who alone is good;
whose steadfast love is everlasting!
Let the gates of righteousness be opened
that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.
This is the gate of the LORD;
the righteous shall enter through it.
This is the day that the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Gracious and eternal God,
Let the silent mystery of your Spirit
surround, sustain and excite us.
Transform our gathering to your glory,
and perfect our worship for your praise.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

PSALM 118:1 ,2, 14-24
Give thanks to the LORD, who alone is good;
whose steadfast love is everlasting!
The LORD is my strength and my might;
the LORD is my salvation.
Let the gates of righteousness be opened
that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.
This is the gate of the LORD;
the righteous shall enter through it.
I thank you that you have answered me
and have become my salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
This is the day that the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession with connection to the lections for the day. Sometimes this prayer will borrow lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)

Gracious God,
we hear the pain of our world and pray
for all for whom this new day is the beginning of life;
for all who face new ventures and new challenges;
for the people engulfed by loneliness, despair or grief;
for all who feel cast off from your presence;
for all who are walled in by circumstance,
and whose will to live is exhausted;
for all who this day will encounter death.
Loving God of all generations,
on this day of days,
hear the cries of our world,
of those we name in our hearts and on our lips.
and do valiantly with your right hand.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer. Amen
