PRAYER OF ADORATION AND CONFESSION: Psalm 81:1,10-16
O God, our strength, we shout our joy;
we shout in triumph to the God of Jacob.
You are the LORD our God,
you brought us up out of a living death;
and filled our wide open mouths.
At times our history we have not heard your voice;
and at times we did not want to hear it.
We have been stubborn
and you have left us to our own devices.
But you long for us to listen to you;
and to walk in your ways.
You long for us to allow you to stand between us
and the things that weigh down our lives;
to turn your hand against them.
All that are against you would knuckle under;
and their time would be over for ever.
You would feed us with the best bread;
and with the purest honey you would satisfy us.

OFFERING
God of abundance and love,
who would feed us
and satisfy us
with the finest of wheat and honey;
we offer our lives
and the gifts of our living
that others might be guests,
fed and satisfied,
at your banquet
of justice and love. Amen

A CREATIVE MOMENT – Luke 14:1, 7-14
Here’s an opportunity to be radical. (“Isn’t every Sunday?” I hear some ask.) As worshippers arrive have them sit in a different seat from their usual one. Visitors could be ‘ushered’ to specific seats, ensuring that regulars are dislocated/dislodged..!

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession with connection to the lections for the day. Sometimes this prayer borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)

Loving God,
fountain of living water,
rejoice with those who rejoice and give thanks today
and strengthen the weak and the lonely.
Pour out your Spirit
on all who are weighed down with grief;
those whose troubles are known only to you;
those we name on our lips and in our silence;
that all may eat at your feast
of justice and love
and be satisfied …
