THE TEMPLE

For Israel’s God
Solomon built a temple
most magnificent.
Sign of God present,
the ark of the covenant
placed at its centre.
Holy awe is felt
in small country churches
and grand cathedrals.
But some such structures
built “to the glory of God”,
put God in the shade.
