WOE AND WAY
(Jeremiah 23:1-6)
“Woe to the shepherds”,
the unjust kings who abused
and scattered their flock.
A text for its time
about a hoped-for, just king,
not about Jesus.
A long tradition:
seeing Jesus where he’s not
more often than not.
Jeremiah’s word:
God’s people together, saved,
living God’s ‘shalom’.
Still, politicians,
self-serving, divide, scatter:
woe to them also.
Living Jesus’ way,
the way of community,
call out unjust ways.
