CALL TO WORSHIP (From Psalm 116)
The LORD is gracious, and merciful,
and hears me when I call
The LORD has been good to you;
the LORD has delivered my life from death
my eyes from tears, and my feet from stumbling.
Then come with thanksgiving,
and call on the name of the LORD.
Let us worship God.
Psalm 116:1-4,12-19
Out of love the LORD has heard my cry;
the LORD listened when I called,
therefore I will proclaim as long as I live.
What shall I return to the LORD for all his bounty to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD,
I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all God’s people.
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of God’s faithful ones.
O LORD, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your serving girl.
You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice and call on the name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all God’s people,
in the courts of the house of the LORD, in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the LORD!
OFFERING
Source of life,
may the works of our hands
bring you honour;
may the life we live
reflect the risen Word of life;
may the service we offer
be inspired by the Breath of life. Amen.
A CREATIVE MOMENT
Continue to use last week’s swathe of white and/or gold/yellow cloth flowing over the front of the worship/communion table and onto the floor as a basis for creativity and symbols during the Easter season.
Click here for some ideas for worship in Lent and Easter gleaned from the pages of “On the Move” (now out of print), originally published by the Joint Board of Christian Education, Melbourne, Australia.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
(A prayer, usually with connection to one or more of the lections for the day, to gather the spoken and silent concerns/joys/thanks expressed by the congregation and lead into a more structured Intercession. Sometimes this prayer also borrows lightly from other sources e.g. Uniting in Worship 2 or publications of the Iona Community.)
Companion God,
we hear the pain of our world and pray
for all for whom this new day is the beginning of life;
for all who face new ventures and challenges;
for the people engulfed by loneliness, despair or grief;
for all who feel cast off from your presence;
for all who are walled in by circumstance
and whose lives are exhausted;
for all this day who will find their rest in you;
In your mercy,
journey with all whom we name in word and silence …
By the presence of your Spirit of mystery and grace
encourage us in the days ahead
so that we can go faithfully as sisters and brothers
of the risen one …
