Sunday 21st October (29B)

A WIDER PERSPECTIVE
God answers
Job’s “dark night of the soul”
with the wonder of the cosmos.
Job begins to see
his place
in God’s big picture:
“I uttered what I did not understand.”
Healed by a wider perspective
a cosmic awe,
a letting go,
a change.

James and John
and the others
still not understanding
the realm
of Jesus’ announcing;
apprehending it
on a personal scale.
Jesus
turns self-understanding on its head:
serving rather than being served
gaining from giving
seeing success
in terms of cosmic justice and wholeness –
God’s shalom.
